Fuseta Portugal is a charming, picturesque and almost untouched fishing village situated in the eastern Algarve.
Fuseta has great transport links being easily reachable by road and train from surrounding towns such as Faro and Tavira. The Faro to Vila Real de San Antonio will take you to the one of the two train stations found there.
It is a 30-minute drive to Faro Airport and a 40-minute drive to Spain and the Spanish border town of Ayamonte. With popular destinations such as Albufeira and Villamoura being within a 50-minute drive.
The village consists of beautiful tiled streets featuring authentic family run restaurants and cafes which serve to provide a delightful array of food and drinks to please every palette. The area is especially famous for its seafood and rodizio cuisine.
The village has 2 main beaches; Praia da Fuseta-Ria next to the Centre of Fuseta, and Praia da Fuseta-Mar which is on an island called Ilha da Armona facing the town. As seen in pictures the sea and beach are complemented by the Formosa river with many tributaries to travel, with the chance to visit one of the numerous ‘deserted islands’ which form part of the nature reserve Parque Natural da Ria Formosa only a boat/ferry ride away. The lagoon area provides the chance of exploration surrounded by natural beauty.
The areas waters are home to numerous animal species such as flamingos, sea horses, dolphins and whales to name a few. With the white sand, and turquoise waters protected from the Atlantic by natural defences it makes for a lovely place to discover by boat, foot or jet ski!.
After speaking to people who visit the area often and posing the question why do they visit? I was told more than once its authenticity is what sets it apart from the more tourist laden areas surrounding. If you walk around the place on a sunny morning you will see locals shopping at the market and be able to watch the boats leaving and entering the marina in anticipation of a busy day fishing or sea cruising. With tourism forming part but not all of the local economy a visitor to the area will be lucky enough to find the cafes and bars that are open in Autumn long after the ‘tourist season’ has ended.
There is a massive opportunity to gain a slice of the high life with 20 townhouses being built next to the nature reserve to a high and energy saving specification. The aim is to seamlessly match old with the new to deliver a wonderful property for the prospective buyer.
